Japan is to resume Whaling in the Antarctic, after a year of absence from it. The mover is controversial, with worldwide condemnation coming from all areas.
Japan says that it is resuming Whaling for ''scientific'' reasons. Whaling is internationally banned on all other grounds, accept scientific grounds. Last year Japan's Whaling was seen not to be for scientific purposes, and was told to cease it's Whaling activities by the 'international Court of Justice'. Greenpeace Australia said ''It's not scientific Whaling, it's straight up commercial Whaling''. There is reason to believe that Japan's wanting of hunting Whales is not for scientific purposes, but for commercial reasons. For Japan has already stated that there is enough Whales for them to hunt commercially. And, Whale meat is sold in Japan, and served in restaurants. There is a challenge presented by Whaling, not just a moral one, in that it is morally wrong to hunt Whales, but, a worry that Whaling could result in a decline of the species, as is what had happened when Whaling was acceptable, and permissible. |
