Giraffes have such long necks because they have more genes. They have more key genes which gives them their long necks.
We now know that a Giraffes genes now form many of their key physical aspects. Such as their height, heart rate, and long neck.
Their physical features make Giraffes unique. They are the tallest land animal on earth today. They are gentle animals, rarely fighting. And, no other modern day mammal looks like them. The structure of a Giraffe is more like a dinosaur, than a modern day mammal.
Giraffes are confronted with many of the same problems that most big mammals face on Earth. Such as trophy hunting. And a loss of habitat. It is therefore no surprise that the number of Giraffes has dramatically fallen. Two years ago it was reported that almost half of the population of Giraffes (40%) had disappeared in only 15 years.
Understanding more about the Giraffe and their habitats could perhaps help us protect them. And their habitat.
