Bullfighting is not a sport, because, it's not something which is done in good taste. It is not something which is light hearted fun. And, it is not an equal match. (We will get to that in a minute).
Bullfighting is not 'entertainment'. What is so entertaining about causing another living, concious being pain, suffering and public torture? Nothing, if you have any sort of compassion, or empathy. How can anyone sit and watch a bull being slowly tortured to death, and find it fun and entertaining? How can anyone sit and watch while a bull is literally being stabbed to death several times, find it entertaining, and not feel an ounce of compassion to do anything.
Sadly, many people. They may be a minority, but that minority is still enough for a) bullfights to still be legalized, and b) cause the death of thousands of bulls each year.
It is not just the 'fight' in itself which causes the bull harm and distress, it is what happens before too. In the days leading up to a bullfight, the bull is deliberately turned aggressive so that they will attack. They are also weakened physically and psychologically. This is one reason why it is not a sport.
Another reason why it is not a sport, is because it is a violence where the human(s) have weapons that the bull does not have. Knives. Spears. Are forced into the bull. Not by one man, but several. This is not where the bulls torment and torture stops. The matadors then taunt the bulls with caps. Red caps. The bull is then stabbed several times.
The killing usually takes up to a six agonizing minutes. Something called the 'final act'. A final sickening act played out, which agonizes the bulls death. This is done to music.
There are other horrors reported before the bulls enter the ring, so that they cannot fight back. Reports of the bulls vision being blinded by things such as Vaseline, their ears being blocked and their horns being shaved, are all reported to be done, so that the bull has as little chance as possible to fight back. Such cowardice.
The bull is always weakened in such a way, that he has no chance of fighting back, and surviving. In fact, the bull isn't always killed in the ring. Often, when they bull is dragged out, he is still concious.
This starts in March, or April of each year. Usually bullfighting season kicks off on Easter time. Which has a certain twisted irony to it. It then lasts up until September or October.
This activity is not a sport. It is not ''entertainment''. It is just cold blooded torture and murder. How this activity is still going in a so called ''civilized'' country, in the twenty first century, is unbelievable. And, it is time that we spoke up, stood up for the bulls, and call for an end to this barbaric activity once and for all.
