1. Talking with candles
If you live with other people, you could spend the time sitting talking with your loved ones, with candles burning. In the modern age we don't do nearly enough of this, we let technology take over our lives, whether it's the TV, or internet, technology can create a barrier between us and our loved ones.
A good way to spend the hour is some bonding with your loved ones, friends or family.
2. Candle lit dinner
This years one from the WWF is having a candle lit dinner with your loved ones. This is also a great way to bond with them. Gadgets such as phones and tablets are switched off, and it makes you present and engaged with your loved ones.
3. Games
If you are looking for something more fun to pass the hour, why not have fun playing a board game. Board games are better than electronic games, because they offer more human interaction and you are more aware of the people around you!
4. Do something for wildlife
Since Earth Hour is partly bout raising awareness for the wildlife of our planet, why not do something for the wild animals in your area. Clean out your nest boxes (if they are not inhabited), put them up somewhere new. Clean out your bird feeders, but them somewhere different for the birds to feed.
5. Wildlife watching
If you live in a rural area then why not see if you can spot wildlife. Foxes, Hedgehogs and Owls are out at night, so there is plenty of wildlife about, even at night.
You might want to avoid this in more urban areas. Going to parks in urban areas can be risky, especially on your own.
6. Stargaze
Another outdoor activity, stargazing. Spend the hour star gazing. Perhaps if there is a group of you you can take snacks and drinks.
This one is probably best for more rural areas too. As you can see stars better and they are more clearer in rural areas.
7. Be more green
You could spend the hour making a green diary. A diary where you have goals to be more green, more environmentally friendly and making goals to protect wildlife in your area.
You could also design your garden to be more environmentally friendly and wildlife friendly for the year ahead. Write down how you can change using chemicals to using things which aren't harmful to wildlife. Make a list in how you can create wildlife areas in your garden, feeding stations. Create something for; birds, hedgehogs, foxes, insects, amphibians along with bees and butterflies.
8. Read a book
Perhaps you want to spend the night quietly. You can read a book. Catch up on your reading list. Even better, if you have books about wildlife or the environment on your bookshelf, read them.
9. Spend the time simply and quietly
The modern world can be busy, and non stop. So, why not find a rare hour to just chill out and have some relaxing time. No phones. Tablets. Laptops. TVs. Just some quite you time.
You can use the hour relaxing. Doing some quite meditation. Something simple and relaxing.
10. Party
Last one of the list, is why not have a WWF Earth Hour themed party. This is last on the list, because it's obviously a bit late to organize a party. However, since its lights out, it doesn't have to be over the top. Some candles, or some battery lights would do. And, a gathering of your nearest family and friends.
