The value of life is the driving force behind sharing cats on Twitter, and my followers on Twitter share these cats to. Because we all think that these animals in kill shelters deserve to live. We all believe that life is very precious, even when it comes to animal life.
That's why I believe PETA is wrong in its kill-policy. If you do not know what PETAs kill-shelter policy is, I will outline it below:
PETA argues against 'no kill-shelters or policies' which is really strange, considering that they are supposed to be pro-animal life? Perhaps they should state that they are only pro animal life at certain times, and in certain circumstances. Which would be a more accurate description of PETAs policy.
PETA also argues that animals suffer in pain http://www.peta.org/features/deadly-consequences-no-kill-policies/ . It fails to realize that there are actually many charities (and individuals) who do look after and who do care for animals. These kill-free centres actually take better care of their animals, than kill-shelters do.
What animals look better cared for:
These in the non-kill shelter - http://careshelter.org/adoptions/featured-pets/
Or these kill-shelter cats - http://nyccats.urgentpodr.org/category/su-cats/
I think the animals in the non-kill shelter look much better. They looked after and cared for. Unlike the cats in kill-shelters, who looked neglected and uncared for.
It's not surprising that PETA takes stance, it has been reported that PETA kills a massive 88% of the animals which come into its shelter. PETA has a very high kill rate. This is immoral on any grounds, but what makes it even more immoral, is PETA fortune. It has an estimated fortune of $44 million dollars.
What makes it worse, is that PETA doesn't want to, and refuses to spend money on saving kill-shelter animals, however, they spend time in creating campaigns against POKEMON! Yes, Pokemon. And, it even seems to have spent time creating an anti-pokemon game http://features.peta.org/pokemon-black-and-white-parody/.
Sorry PETA, when when you spend time and effort (and possibly money) on an anti-pokemon game, having anti-pokemon campaigns, you lose all credibility. Especially when that time and money could be spent on saving animals, and caring for them. You have the money and the resources to do so.
-------
I haven't supported PETA for years, because of their kill-shelter policy. I will never support them again because of it. I could not give money to a charity which uses that money to kill animals. When the animal rights movement has a hard enough time campaigning for animal rights, PETA only adds to that problem. Instead of acting in the interests of animals (in this instance - but, probably more), I feel PETA instead supports a system which is much crueller, and immoral.
I find PETAs stance on this to be a bit of a double standard too, when you take their view on farm animals into the mix. That, we should all be vegans. In that light, what would PETA do with all of those farm animals? As there would be an overpopulation of unwanted farm animals.
PETA states that about 2 million pets are euthanized each year in the US, while the Humane Society states that there are over five million land animals killed each year for the purpose of farming. Essentially, if those animals were not used in the meat industry, it is very likely that most of those five million animals would be abandoned. Which means, that there would be double the amount of abandoned and homeless farm animals (in the US along). Does PETA offer the same approach of killing these unwanted farm animals? If it does, that means that everything that they are campaigning for now, in relation to farm animals, if it doesn't, then there is not much point in its campaigns, if it doesn't, then why does it do so for companion animals?

I'm sorry PETA, but you are so wrong on kill-shelters. And, many individuals and small charities do tremendous work saving and caring for abandoned animals. They do that, with a lot less resources and money that you have.
Campaigning to save animals, shelter animals, should not be confused with hoarding. And, non-kill shelters (or individuals) are not neglectful, they care.
