Animals like bunnies, chicks and lambs are often killed by humans, sometimes even abused. When you think of how mistreated these animals are, it's contradictory to the message of Easter - love - compassion.
Is this something that Jesus would have wanted, for us to kill animals so needlessly, with little compassion. Probably not. You just have to look at the story of Jesus saving the Ox, when everyone else walked past it, as an example of that.
How can we celebrate Easter as a holiday of 'love' and 'compassion', when we slaughter animals, and shed blood. That's far from compassionate and loving. But, that's the reality of many animals, including animals such as; rabbits, chicks and lambs.
The first ones that we shall take, are chicks (or chickens).
Chickens are the number one land animal which are slaughtered. Every year, a massive 50 billion chickens are slaughtered every year. The vast majority of these chickens live in factory farms.
On top of this, 40 million males chicks, in the UK alone, are killed as chicks. They are put into grinders live, and grinned to death.
Buying any egg or chicken products feeds into this industry, and causing this. This is the reality that we don't want to see - would we feel different and stop consuming these products if it was mandatory to see them?
The second animal that we are going to look at are, lambs.
Nothing is more innocent than a baby lamb, and very few creatures are more cute than a lamb. However, lambs are one of the favourite meals for people to consume over the Easter period.
There are 14.5 million lambs (and sheep) killed each year in the UK, alone. We all have the image that lambs run around in green pasture fields, often, sadly they are not.
They are not one of the most common animals to be killed for their meat, however, they still are killed for their meat. Thousands of animals are killed each day for their meat. While millions are killed each year for their fur.
We have a choice though. We have a choice every single day not to buy into this. We have a choice not to buy meat. We have a choice not to buy fur. The animals do not have that choice. But you can be their voice, you can refuse to purchase meat and fur.
