If you haven't seen it yet, you can find Blackfish streaming on Neflix just now; it highlights the plight of animals in Seaworlds care.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
Blackfish highlights the cruelty that Orcas face. The documentary has a lot of former Seaworld employees. The flim shows how Orcas are stolen from the sea; particularity young Orcas are stoled away from their pods, and mothers. It is an insightful documentary. but at the same time, a very heartbreaking one too. We also see how these animals are put through much psychological strain, and even abuse. Some of the Orcas (one, I think which killed one of the trainers) has been living in a tank themselves - a form of punishment - and very unnatural for these animals to live in this conditions. Although, when the Orcas attack, it is not their fault, for they are wild animals, and particularly powerful wild animals, having people work with them is extremely dangerous, as wild animals are unpredictable. The Orcas also live in very unnatural conditions, they live in what feels like a bath tub to them, when really they should be living in the ocean.
The move will be brought into effect in 2017. But, it does not go far enough; no animals in the 21st century should be used as objects for sheer entertainment. Seaworld is about that; it is not about conservation, or education, but rather about exploiting animals through ''entertainment'' for profit. And, sooner or later, places like Seaworld will only be seen through the eys of a history book, and future generations will look back an wonder why we ever exploited these beautiful, and intelligent animals for so long.
