The project is situated in the Highlands of Scotland. The project was initially set up to neuter domestic cats, so that these domestic cats do not breed with the Critically Endangered Scottish Wildcat. The project will now be extended to further areas, meaning that more domestic cats will be neutered.
However, the main reason in why the Scottish Wildcat has become so scarce, is because the Scottish Wildcat has came into conflict with humans. The Scottish Wildcat used to be common throughout mainland Britain, however, humans hunting them particularly during the Victorian era and the early 20th Century, has driven the cat to extinction.
