The New year has seen many animals going to shelters in Austin, this is mainly down to the use of fireworks being used.
In the four days of the New Year, shelters in Austin have seen 100 to 200 animals enter their care.
This is not just down to fireworks. It is also due to loud parties, and loud music. This makes the animals scared, and run away.
The pets who have ended up in these shelters are the lucky ones - in one way, this is because the Austin Animal Shelter is a no kill shelter. So, instead of the pets being euthinized, the shelter will find them new homes, if their owners can't be traced.
