A stunning insight into the wildlife, and scenery of Loch Lomond. The first episode begins with two Black Grouse, fighting for dominance, and the attentions of a lady Grouse, who is looking upon them the whole time and impressed with either of them, and walks away from them. This is the first rare glimpse into Loch Lomand that we see as the viewer. It is not the last we see, there is far more to come, and more spectacular scenes from wildlife. One particualry, is very impressive. And a rare treat. We see songbirds searching for food under water in a river, this scene in particular is wow. It is just beyond words; magnificent. It does not stop there though. Later in the episode, in parrt three, we get a look into the lives of the Water Vole. A rare animal, which is incredibly adorable! They are not that big; around the size of a Hedgehog. Although, they can swim very well, which is impressive. Like all animals, particularly wild animals, they face daily dangers. One of their main predators are the American Mink, who were introduced into the British countryside, after they escaped, now banned, fur farms. The most surprising scene, perhaps comes at the end. This is when we see a female deer, uncharacteristically being aggressive. She is aggressive towards another deers calf. All in all, this was a wonderful start to this four parter series about Loch Lomonds wildlife. Looking forward to part two next week! Rating out of five - an impressive 4/5 **** |
