Even though there is a victory in fur farming being banned in the UK (with Northern Ireland included in the England, and Wales ban), their isn't an all round victory, because fur is still sold in UK shops, it is not illegal for shops to sell fur.
Most fur imported into the UK comes from countries such as; Canada, Russia, China, and Europe (particuarly the EU). The EU is particuarly notorious for it's mink fur farms, producing 67% of it. The EU is failing animals, animals who are used in fur farms. Particuarly foxes, and mink - the two most common animals to be used as fur pelts. The EU hasn't progressed in its laws for animal rights, with the same pace as the UK has. If anything, the EU is failing Europes animals.
Animals who are used for fur in the EU are not the only animals which are being neglected, bulls are too. Bullfighting is not only legal in the EU, it is activley eencouraged, and supported through subsides.
In Europe alone, from the EU alone, millions of animals are killed through fur farming. 30 million mink are killed. 2 millions foxes are killed. And, 300,000 Racoon Dogs are all killed annually.
The UK ban on fur farming doesn't go far enough, it should go further. There shouls be a complete ban in the import of fur into the UK. It would replicate what other countries are doing with banning the import of trophy animals (such as Lions, from countries like France). For fur farming to become totally extinct, we need to only to ban it here, but ban shops from selling it too.
