This comes on the back of conservationist being alarmed about the decline of Hedgehogs in recent years. This is because Hedgehogs are a good indicator of our natural habitats health. They can tell us if the countryside, and habitats are healthy, or unhealthy. With Hedgehogs declining so drastically over the past six decades, from over 50 million Hedgehogs, to know under 1 million Hedgehogs, it is no wonder that conservationists are alarmed by this, and, that it is telling of how unhealthy the British countryside is.
Even though the decline is worse in rural areas, it is only slightly. Hedgehogs in urban areas are suffering too. This is down to gardens becoming more plastic, and concrete. And not enough people have green, and authentic gardens - fewer people having; hedges, trees, plants, and flowers in their gardens, are all contributing to the decline of Hedgehogs in urban areas.
