Baby animals keep dying because people keep picking them up, officials claim.
One animal which had recently being killed because of a misunderstanding, was in Washington America, were a woman picked up a seal, thinking it was abandoned.
This follows another story about a seal which was picked up but a couple, who thought the seal was abandoned. They took the seal away to look after him/her, and returned the seal the following day to the sea. But however, the seal died.
Many times people will picked up baby animals thinking that the baby animal has been abandoned. However, it is most likely that the animals mother is very nearby, and therefore looking after the animal.
If you see a baby animal, it is advised by officials to leave the animal alone, as the animal is not abandoned. And there mother is likely not far away. If the animal appears injured, then of course take the animal to a nearby veterinarian. But, if not, just leave the animal alone, the mother will return.
This seems to be a new trend which has occurred. Where people are taking animals such as dolphins, or baby sharks out of the water, and taking selfies with them.
People are increasingly taking marine animals, especially mammals, out of the water, carrying them about, or pinning them down to take selfies. This is cruel, and should be avoided. The animal also could die, either with being taken out of their environment, or die from the stress of the interaction from humans.
The animal is also particularly vulnerable if they are a baby. The mother, or the group of the particular animal could and probably will abandon the baby, because of the interaction with humans it's had.
So, unless a wild animal is injured and needs a vet, please do not pick them up, and take selfies with them.
